Marbella Golf and Country Club
Considered one of Europe’s best-designedgolf course, the Marbella Golf and Country club has one of the most challenging courses. The course is set in a wealthy part of the Costa del Sol and is the brainchild of the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr.
The course, totalling 5,867 in length, has 18 holes and a par of 72. The challenging part of the course comes in the strategically positioned bunkers and water hazards. The property where the course is located is naturally hilly and features an uneven landscape which makes it more challenging. This coupled with the views of the undulating landscape make for exceptional golfing.
The camp is located in the vicinity of the Hospital Costa del Sol. There is a lot of signage as you are coming in from the East towards Fuengirola. Exit at El Rosario, cross the bridge to reach the A7-N340 and after 100m towards Marbella turn right and exit the A7-N340. At this point start looking for signage for Marbella Golf and country club.
The course has a practice range, a restaurant, a golfing academy which caters to individuals and groups, pro-shop, sauna, rental equipment, buggies, electric trolley and parking.
It is open to the public with a minimum golf handicap for men 28 and for women 36
Santa Clara Golf Club
This golf course is set in a luxury residential complex surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife. The design ensures privacy and exclusivity to allow complete concentration to the golfers. Designed by Enrique Canales Busquets, it was opened in 2001 and is widely considered a more pleasant and simple course. The property features sloping gradients that are ideal for beginner golfers.
Despite its simple terrain, it does have the “Santa Clara Corner” which is the most technical bit of the course. It features the 12,13, and 14 with the 12th hole being the most difficult to manoeuvre. Despite its simplicity, the course is well respected and has earned the quality certificate ISO 9001.
Located 5km from the centre of Marbella, the Santa Clara Golf Club is situated opposite the Hotel Los Monteros. The course also has a pro-shop, clubhouse, restaurant, driving range, a two-tiered practice tee and a pitch and put course. The two-tiered practice tee is notable for its width and features 20 positions!
The Costa del Sol is peppered with holiday resorts that have golf courses. While none of the courses are inside Nerja they are within driving distance of the beautiful Spanish town.
Noteworthy golf courses are easy to come by within the Nerja vicinity. Just take a drivearound the vicinity to get to a golf course that is ideal for your level of golfing expertise.
